What The World Needs Now Is…Accountability

How do we take accountability?

When we take responsibility and ownership for our words and our actions, that is being accountable.

I feel that many people make this harder than it needs to be. Unfortunately, what gets intertwined are cultural and societal norms, avoidance, excuses, placing blame, lack of consideration and an overall sense of entitlement to behave or speak in certain ways. If we vet out all of the underlying behaviors, what may seem to be “gray” areas actually become very clear as to what is right and what is wrong.

Taking accountability is actually very powerful! When we own our decisions, we live in our truth and reflect our own authenticity. Do we make all the right choices and say all the right things? Nope. If we are responsible humans, though, we can look at our less than desirable actions and do the self-work so as not to repeat them. Finding the silver linings and lessons within our errors is what helps us evolve.

This is where the power lies. We break cycles of ignorance, intolerance and injustice when we approach all aspects of our lives with accountability. When we treat others as we would like to be treated, the way is clear. We all seek understanding, love, connection and peace. When we can find that within ourselves, we can reflect it out into the world.

The journey is not always easy, so there must be space and compassion given when we falter. Faith must live in our constant desire to be the best version of ourselves. It is the way.

With love,

Meg
